LinkedIn Campaign Taxonomy

Overview

RevSure ingests LinkedIn Ads data directly via the LinkedIn Ad APIs and maps it into a fixed, three-level hierarchy inside RevSure's Campaign object. This mapping is fixed by design and cannot be remapped or shifted — LinkedIn's structure always lands the same way in RevSure.

  • Campaign Name → Parent Campaign Name: LinkedIn's Campaign Name becomes the Parent Campaign Name in RevSure.

  • Ad Set → Campaign Name: LinkedIn's Ad Set becomes the Campaign Name in RevSure.

  • Ad → Ads: Individual LinkedIn ads map to RevSure Ads.

How LinkedIn Touches Get Attributed

RevSure pulls campaign data from LinkedIn through several signal types, all of which roll up into the hierarchy above:

  • Campaign (Direct API pull): LinkedIn Ad Campaign names and IDs are associated to Page Visit URL UTM parameters (e.g. utm_campaign=xyz). These page visits are captured via First Party SDK (and Eloqua activities for historical data) and logged as attributed campaign touches.

  • Lead Gen Forms: Form submissions are captured directly from LinkedIn and associated via campaign ID to create attributed touches.

  • Company Intelligence: Account-level impressions and clicks are captured from LinkedIn's Company Intelligence API. Any account with >10 impressions or >0 clicks on a given day generates an attributed touch.

LinkedIn vs. LinkedIn Social (Paid vs. Organic)

RevSure separates paid and organic LinkedIn activity into two distinct source systems:

  • LinkedIn — paid ad campaigns (the hierarchy described above).

  • LinkedIn Social — organic LinkedIn activity (organic posts), covering both underlying lead/activity data and Campaign records.

To view them:

  • Combined view (paid + organic): select both LinkedIn and LinkedIn Social as sources.

  • Organic only: filter to LinkedIn Social on its own.

Matching Ads Back to LinkedIn Campaign Manager

Sometimes the Ad ID shown in RevSure won't match the Ad ID on LinkedIn's platform directly. This happens because RevSure falls back to LinkedIn's Post ID when an ad has no Ad Name set on LinkedIn's side.

To cross-reference against LinkedIn Campaign Manager, add the "Ad Properties" dimension to your report. It surfaces LinkedIn's native identifiers, including:

  • li_ad_id

  • li_campaign_id

  • li_creative_id

  • li_posts_id

  • li_ad_commentary (the ad copy text — useful for a quick visual match)

FAQ

Can we remap which LinkedIn level lands where (e.g. have Parent Campaign name map to Ad Sets instead of Campaign Name)? No. The mapping — Parent Campaign name → Campaign Name, Campaign name → Ad Sets, Ad → Ads — is fixed by design and applies the same way for every account. It can't be shifted or reconfigured.

Why can't I find "Parent Campaign name" as a field on the Data Sources mapping screen? It's not a standalone mappable attribute — it's a derived field ingested straight into the Campaign object alongside everything else, so it never shows up as its own separately configurable field.

My Ad ID in RevSure doesn't match what I see in LinkedIn Campaign Manager — why? RevSure falls back to LinkedIn's Post ID when an ad has no Ad Name set on LinkedIn's side, which can make the identifiers look different. Add the "Ad Properties" dimension to your report to see LinkedIn's native identifiers (li_ad_id, li_campaign_id, li_creative_id, li_posts_id, li_ad_commentary) and cross-reference against Campaign Manager directly.

I'm only seeing paid or only organic LinkedIn data — where's the rest? Paid ads and organic activity are tracked as two separate sources: LinkedIn (paid) and LinkedIn Social (organic). Select both to see combined data, or filter to just one.

Quick Recap

  • LinkedIn's Campaign → Ad Set → Ad structure maps fixed into RevSure's Parent Campaign → Campaign → Ad structure

  • Parent Campaign name is a derived field, not a separately mappable attribute.

  • Paid LinkedIn Ads and organic LinkedIn Social activity are tracked as separate source systems.

  • Use the Ad Properties dimension to reconcile Ad IDs/Post IDs against LinkedIn's own Campaign Manager identifiers.
